US President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement in American cities may intensify after a US citizen was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement- ICE officer in Minneapolis of the Minnesota State on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot while driving. She was referred to by the Department of Homeland Security as a “rioter” who was trying to use her car to disrupt immigration law enforcement personnel.
State and municipal leaders are outraged about Good’s death saying that when federal resources started flooding the Twin Cities in December, they anticipated a violent episode like this.
Following the incident, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz stated at a press conference that he had been “warning for weeks” that ICE operations in his state posed a “threat to public safety.”
Meanwhile, Minnesota officials said, the FBI has barred them from participating in the inquiry.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, local authorities have “no jurisdiction” in the investigation. The shooting is described differently by federal and municipal officials.
Noem claims that Good attempted to “weaponize her vehicle,” while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey claims the agent was “recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying.”
On the other hand, Minneapolis is seeing demonstrations against ICE.
Earlier, as part of the White House’s campaign against illegal immigration, hundreds of ICE agents have been sent to Minneapolis of Minnesota.
