Based on the National Weather Service forecast, Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu today (September 24, 2026) issued a coastal storm warning for the City of Boston, effective tomorrow, Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27.
Residents can anticipate possible effects such as heavy rain, strong gusts, and coastal erosion and floods during this time, which peaks on Friday night and continues into Saturday.
Up to two to four inches of rain and strong, destructive winds are predicted in the most recent forecast with little chance of flooding and water ponding on roads. At the height of the storm, residents are advised to remain inside.
Mayor Michelle Wu said, “Nor’easters aren’t new for New England, but not usually in September, so we’re taking extra preparations to connect with all our residents about this rare fall nor’easter”.
“We urge residents and families to take all necessary precautions to stay indoors and safe during the storm. Thank you to all our City workers who have been collaborating to keep our neighborhoods safe and our City ready to respond,” she added.

AlertBoston, the city’s emergency mass notification system, allows residents to sign up to get alerts via phone, text, or email in 11 languages. Additionally, locals and visitors are urged to visit boston.gov/flood to learn more about their risk of flooding.
