As Spain observes three days of mourning, Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez pledged that an investigation will determine the reason of a high-speed train collision that claimed at least 39 lives.
\n122 people were also hurt in the collision which occurred close to Adamuz in the Cordoba region, some 360 kilometers (223 miles) south of Madrid.
\nIn Adamuz on Sunday, a train headed for Madrid crossed over to the other tracks after being derailed and collided with an approaching train.
\nA traveler reported to local media that he experienced “the feeling that the whole train was going to fall apart” after experiencing a jolt.
\nThe front carriages of the second train, which was heading south from Madrid to Huelva, had the majority of the dead and injured.
\nOscar Puente, the minister of transportation, described the collision as “extremely strange” because it occurred on a straight section of the track.
\nThe “relatively new” Madrid train, which was constructed in 2022, was examined four days ago, according to rail company Iryo.<\/p>\n
