Based on the National Weather Service forecast<\/a><\/strong>, Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu today (September 24, 2026) issued a coastal storm warning for the City of Boston, effective tomorrow, Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27.<\/p>\n

Residents can anticipate possible effects such as heavy rain, strong gusts, and coastal erosion and floods during this time, which peaks on Friday night and continues into Saturday.<\/p>\n

Up to two to four inches of rain and strong, destructive winds are predicted in the most recent forecast with little chance of flooding and water ponding on roads. At the height of the storm, residents are advised to remain inside.<\/p>\n

Mayor Michelle Wu said, \u201cNor\u2019easters aren\u2019t new for New England, but not usually in September, so we\u2019re taking extra preparations to connect with all our residents about this rare fall nor\u2019easter\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge residents and families to take all necessary precautions to stay indoors and safe during the storm. Thank you to all our City workers who have been collaborating to keep our neighborhoods safe and our City ready to respond,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

In advance of this coastal storm, the City of Boston is acting quickly to offer assistance to locals, families, and tourists. AlertBoston<\/a><\/strong>, the city’s emergency mass notification system, allows residents to sign up to get alerts via phone, text, or email in 11 languages. Additionally, locals and visitors are urged to visit boston.gov\/flood<\/a><\/strong> to learn more about their risk of flooding.<\/p>\n

You can report power outages online to Eversource. Eversource users can register to get notifications by texting “REG” to 23129, report power outages by texting “OUT” to 23129, and check status by texting “STAT” to 23129.<\/p>\n
